Extracting true stresses and strains from nominal stresses and strains in tensile testing

چکیده

Abstract Seemingly a simple task, the extraction of flow curve (true stress vs. true plastic strain) from nominal stresses and strains in standard tensile testing still has its unsolved points. This study addresses two them: (i) materials without yield point phenomenon (or generally region homogeneous deformation), is typically calculated assuming constant volume, ignoring elastic volume changes. Here, we derive set exact analytical solutions for with remarkable simplicity beauty that fully account cross‐checked by finite element simulations as well zeroth‐ first‐order approximations; perfect agreement been found. (ii) In pronounced phenomenon, complicated three‐dimensional state inevitably arises at edge Lüders bands, which masks real inherent) material behaviour. To determine behaviour region, here use new macroscopic approach characterised high upper point, typical strain hardening common many materials, triaxiality develops edges bands determines level observed lower point. verified experiments (including video observations digital image correlation (DIC) distribution measurements) very good agreement.

Stresses and Strains

The theory of plasticity is the branch of mechanics that deals with the calculation of stresses and strains in a body, made of ductile material, permanently deformed by a set of applied forces. The theory is based on certain experimental observations on the macroscopic behavior of metals in uniform states of combined stresses. The observed results are then idealized into a mathematical formulat...

Revision Stresses and Strains in the Passive Left Ventricle Revision Stresses and Strains in the Passive Left Ventricle

In this paper, we estimate the stresses and strains from the equatorial region down to the apex of the heart by modeling the passive left ventricle as a frustrum of a thick hollow cone. Large deformation theory has been employed in this analysis. Furthermore, the eeects of residual stresses and the anisotropy due to muscle ber orientation have been included. It is observed that circumferential ...

Noninvasive in vivo determination of residual strains and stresses.

Vascular growth and remodeling during embryonic development are associated with blood flow and pressure induced stress distribution, in which residual strains and stresses play a central role. Residual strains are typically measured by performing in vitro tests on the excised vascular tissue. In this paper, we investigated the possibility of estimating residual strains and stresses using physio...

Sharp Bounds for Strains and Stresses in Uncertain Mechanical Models

Many mechanical systems, involving interval uncertainties and modelled by finite element method, can be described by parameter dependent systems of linear interval equations and response quantities depending on the system solution. A newly developed hybrid interval approach for solving parametric interval linear systems is applied to a 2D engineering model with interval parameters and the resul...

Stresses and strains on the human fetal skeleton during development

Mechanical forces generated by fetal kicks and movements result in stimulation of the fetal skeleton in the form of stress and strain. This stimulation is known to be critical for prenatal musculoskeletal development; indeed, abnormal or absent movements have been implicated in multiple congenital disorders. However, the mechanical stress and strain experienced by the developing human skeleton ...
